What do we do?
Faces extends the availability of the Conscious Discipline program to people who would not otherwise be able to afford its life-changing education. We do so through a combination of grants and donations and hope you will consider partnering with us in this endeavor as we continue in our goal of empowering the face of education.
Conscious Discipline is a very unique example of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) which essentially provides the life skills children and adults need to handle relationships, school, work and themselves successfully.
What makes Conscious Discipline so unique when compared to the 300+ other SEL programs out there is that it uses the concept of the School Family™ to build bonds and teach SEL in context. Let’s face it: the best curriculum in the world won’t work unless it is APPLIED. The School Family creates connections; connection between students and other students, and between students and their teacher. This connection leads to willingness; willingness to participate as a member of this family. It is this willingness that allows consequences to actually work!
Beyond all the theory, at the core of Conscious Discipline® are “teaching moments.” Many programs require special teaching times in which academic learning pauses while a specific social-emotional skill is taught. Instead, Conscious Discipline® provides social-emotional learning in context, an approach widely recognized as the most effective way for the brain to internalize learning. Conscious Discipline® provides educators with the social-emotional skill set to seize the teaching moments children regularly offer in classrooms, corridors and playgrounds. When one child pinches another because he’s in her seat, the teacher intervenes on the spot not with a referral or other punitive approach, but by modeling a socially appropriate response for the entire class.
Faces is supplied with Conscious Discipline products and services at cost ensuring that any donations made are guaranteed to go directly to the people who need them most. In addition Loving Guidance (the company behind Conscious Discipline) donates 1% of their annual profits to our general fund.
